Focus and scope

ProInflow is a peer-reviewed journal. It is focused on the field of information sciences. The journal is primarily designed for authors and readers interested in the area of information science. ProInflow is included in The Registry of peer-reviewed periodicals, which is managed by The Research and Development Council of the Czech Republic. The journal was founded in 2009 by the Division of Information and Library Studies at the Masaryk University in Brno. ProInflow is published twice a year (regularly in March and in September).

ProInflow focuses on publishing scientific papers in the area of information science, using the transcdisciplinary concept of this field of study. Each issue of the journal is oriented on a single subject. The subjects cover various areas of information science but overlap into other areas, such as librarianship, information systems, information technology, cognitive sciences, psychology, cybernetics, ethics, philosophy etc.

The goal of the journal is to create a prestigious source of professional scientific information in the field of information sciences. The journal should offer a common space for sharing scientific papers, that could cultivate the field of information sciences and push it forward. ProInflow should become a tool for scientific communication of professionals from the Czech Republic as well as Slovakia. The journal also aspires to wider international cooperation. Accordingly – authors can publish their papers in English.

The content of the journal is divided into several sections. Main part of the journal is focused on publishing original scientific texts and texts from scientific research. This part represents more than one half of the extent of each number. The quality of these papers is ensured by anonymous reviewers. The non-peer-reviewed part consists of four sections. These are 'Book review', 'Field Curiosities', 'Notable Personalities in LIS' and 'Translation of a Foreign Scholarly Papers'. We select useful and inspiring articles from foreign-language peer-reviewed journals for translation.

ProInflow supports the idea of Open Access – instant and free access to professional information. The readers have unlimited access to full texts of articles. The journal is included in the international catalogue DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) which is focused on peer-reviewed Open Access journals.

The Editorial board's engagement

Editorial board together with editor in chief proposes, approves or denies individual steps of conceptional and formal development of the journal.
Editorial board proposes and approves themes of forthcoming issues of the journal and also suggests issue editors. The issue editor doesn't have to be an editorial board's member.
Editorial board suggests possible authors for forthcoming issues.
Editorial board approves reviewers of scholarly papers suggested by editor in chief or issue editor.
Editorial board and issue editor choose papers best suited for the reviewed section of the journal following their reviews.
Editorial board has the right to express its opinion on the undergoing peer-review process or even to infirm its every particular step.
Editorial board chooses papers best suited for the non reviewed section of the journal considering their relation to the focus and scope of the journal.
